These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.· Develop and maintain novel NGS data analysis algorithms and NGS bioinformatics pipelines.· Comprehensive evaluation of open-source algorithms/tools for DNA and RNA sequence data analysis for building clinical bioinformatics pipeline.· Performs comprehensive validation and documentation of bioinformatics pipelines and algorithms in compliance with clinical accreditation requirements.· Prepares timelines, project plans and flow charts for the development or enhancement of new and existing genomics applications.· Works in conjunction with laboratory director, pathologists, laboratory professionals, and other scientific members to optimize and validate new analytical tools and processes.· Gathers, analyzes, and documents complex clinical and user requirements, functional requirements, and data specifications. Designs, writes and documents technical specifications to design or redesign complex bioinformatics workflows.· Collaborates with other software developers, institutional IT teams, applications staff and users of information systems to evaluate, plan, design, develop, test, implement, and maintain application development efforts and/or reports.QualificationsEDUCATION/EXPERIENCEMinimum Requirements:· Bachelor’s degree in a related field· 0 – 2 years of work experience in a related job disciplinePreferred:· Masters’ or PhD degree in Bioinformatics.· At least 1-2 year experience in building or managing bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines for processing genomic data (e.g. DNA and RNA sequencing, gene expression, methylation, etc).· Proficiency with the one or more of the following programming languages:o Python (required)o C/C++o R· Proficiency with using the Linux OS, command line tools, and bash scripting.· Experience with using HPC or similar resources for high throughput computing.· Experience with data visualization and summarization.Unique Skills:· Working knowledge of version control and code base management using git and code repository tools (e.g. gitlab, bitbucket, github).· Experience in applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to solving complex bioinformatics and genomics problems is highly desirable.· Familiarity with using containers (Docker) is highly desirable.· Familiarity with designing and maintaining SQL databases (e.g. Postgresql, MySql).Cincinnati Children’s is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer that values and treasures Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
