OverviewTRC Companies, Inc., a pioneer in groundbreaking scientific and engineering services, is seeking a Biologist to join our Planning, Permitting, and Licensing Practice in the Houston, TX area. Remote working or hybrid office/remote working is possible in Texas.
ResponsibilitiesThe position requires a strong technical background supporting our TRC leaders serving as a Biologist to:

  • Conduct biological field surveys which may include wetland/waterbody (in accordance with USACE requirements), habitat, or wildlife and plant species-specific surveys; conduct breeding bird and raptor surveys.
  • Collect accurate data in the field using GPS units and phone/tablet apps to locate work areas and map habitat and species observations.
  • Prepare wetland reports and obtain jurisdictional determinations.
  • Provide support for permit applications for USACE Section 10/404 and state permit applications.
  • Provide support for mitigation activities including mitigation banking options for client projects or permittee-responsible options requiring the development of Wetlands Mitigation Plans, mitigation site design, and conducting monitoring/reporting to Agencies.
  • Prepare listed species reports and consultation packages to resource agencies.
  • Prepare federal, state, and local environmental permits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, biology, ecology, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical communication skills are mandatory, along with the ability to maintain a positive attitude working under aggressive schedules.
  • The ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials is required.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Wetland Delineation within the USACE Great Plains Region experience is preferred.
  • Listed species general habitat assessment experience is required.
  • 0-2 years of internship experience in the field completing biological field surveys.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply environmental compliance and permitting regulations of applicable regulatory agencies in the Gulf/South region is not required but preferred.
  • Experience/familiarity writing NEPA related documents such as Environmental Assessments, Categorical Exclusions, and related technical reports.
  • Experience routing linear projects across landscapes to avoid and minimize environmental impact.
  • Experience evaluating existing or proposed projects for impacts to the environment, necessary permit procedures and potential fatal flaws (due diligence).

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
