Their collaborations with investigators in an array of research units, both within the Department of Internal Medicine and across UT Southwestern, have enabled them to provide the most innovative treatments and exceptional specialty care.Job SummaryThe Digestive and Liver Division of Internal Medicine is looking for a Biostatistical Consultant II. This position has flexibility in-person and/or hybrid in-person and remote options. The candidate will support 2 physician-researchers Drs. Cotter and Louissaint:Dr. Thomas Cotter specializes in liver diseases and liver transplantation, with a particular interest in alcohol-associated liver disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. Dr. Cotter’s research is primarily outcomes-based and is focused on improving the care of patients. His work is multi-faceted including building prospective and retrospective observational cohorts, and analyzing large datasets, to explore how various factors modulate patient outcomes in alcohol-associated liver disease. Dr. Cotter seeks candidates for the Biostatistician II role with experience in prospective data management via REDCap, advanced quantitative data analysis, and large database management and analysis. He is supported by society and NIH fundings.Dr. Jeremy Louissaint specializes in liver diseases and liver transplantation. Dr. Louissaint’s research focuses on leveraging effective patient-provider communication, particularly in the digital space, to improve the outpatient care of patients with cirrhosis. His work uses large electronic health record-based datasets to identify how patients and providers communicate and exchange health-related information via the electronic health record, and how these interactions impact patient outcomes in chronic liver disease. Dr. Louissaint seeks candidates for the Biostatistician II role with experience in clinical informatics, artificial intelligence/machine learning, large database management and analysis, and proficiency in R and Python. He is supported by the University of Texas Southwestern Dean’s Scholar in Clinical Research.This candidate will perform complex data analysis related to specialized research methodologies & results as assigned by the PI. Additionally, they will develop & maintain complex databases to support new & ongoing research projects and perform other duties as assigned.Preferred Experience

Preferred Education
- Minimum two (2) year experience in statistical consulting with preference given to experience working in biomedical or health care environment.
Experience and Education
- Master’s degree in biostatistics or related discipline, or MPH with a concentration in biostatistics.
- Minimum one (1) year experience in statistical consulting with preference given to experience working in biomedical or health care environment.
- Requires working knowledge of SAS, SPSS or other major statistical package (S+, R, etc.) and Microsoft Office (ACCESS and EXCEL).
Lab DutiesManage research lab computer hardware & software programming & maintenance.Ensure existing systems meet the continuing needs of the lab and/or recommend and test new systems as necessary.Perform complex data analysis related to specialized research methodologies & results as assigned by the PI.Develop &/or modify software to support new & ongoing research projects.Resolve hardware, software, and network issues in support of the lab.Develop & maintain complex databases to support new & ongoing research projects.Train lab staff in the use of pertinent research systems.May specialize in bioinformatics, software development, network admin, or hardware/software maintenance.Perform other duties as assigned.Job Duties
- Collaborates with investigators to identify problems and provide statistical consultation including design of experiments, analysis of data and interpretation of results.
- Writes statistical portion on manuscript based on results of analysis and address manuscript revisions based on reviewer’s comments.
- Assists client data organization.
- Performs statistical computations.
- Provides graphical and tabular representations.
- Develops, maintains and modifies programs for in-house use.
- Collaborates with investigators in grant development including statistical design of studies and preparation of statistical portion of grant proposal.
- Performs non-statistical components of consulting such as providing analogous examples and explanations using non-technical terminology and helping researchers formulate and clarify research issues.
- Visits client’s work field whenever possible to establish rapport and become familiar with and interested in client’s research and data.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
