Description:Reporting to the University Chaplain and Dean of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL), the Chief of Staff supports the Dean as a strategist and implementer, ensuring streamlined operations within the department based on the priorities of the Dean, department, and institution.

  • Handles the day-to-day management of staff, budgets, spaces, programs, data, and communications to allow the Dean to focus on vision, strategy, strategic relationships, and departmental and program development.
  • Communications responsibilities include, but are limited to: Building and sending out weekly enewsletter, managing social media accounts, working with designer to create posters and graphics for events and managing the OSRL email account
  • Program support responsibilities include, but are limited to: providing logistics support for major OSRL programs, such as King Week, Soul Food Sunday, Beloved Community worship, Ramadan preparations etc.
  • Provide onsite program support to certain key programs, including occasional weekend staffing.
  • Space coordination responsibilities include but are limited to: managing reservation process for OSRL spaces, including Cannon Chapel, Interfaith Center, and AMUC 125 space.
  • Work with Program Coordinator to ensure spaces are set up correctly.
  • Financial management responsibilities include approving department expense reports, tracking program specific budgets
  • Assists in searching for, onboarding, supervising, and reviewing personnel.
  • Supervises some staff positions.
  • Develops and prepares meeting materials and agendas for the Dean and others.
  • Research and compile information for presentations and conferences.
  • Assists in strategic and program planning processes, meetings, presentations, assessments, etc.
  • Assists in developing budget proposals, monitoring budgets, budget reports, etc.
  • Coordinates the execution of strategic initiatives including major complex programs, conferences, and campaigns; may provide content in programs as appropriate.
  • Develops data management and communications strategies for the department.
  • Assists in policy and procedure development and implementation; ensures that issues are addressed properly, efficiently, and judiciously and tracks their progress to resolution.
  • Helps to build and support departmental and institutional relations; serves as a liaison with relevant stakeholders and partners; may represent the Dean in meetings.
  • Contributes to the long-term success of the department and the institution.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree and five years of progressively responsible operations/management experience in higher education or another complex organization.
  • Master’s degree in higher education administration or a related field preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated supervisory skills. Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong awareness of religious diversity, social justice, and interfaith engagement concepts.
  • Proficiency with a personal computer and with relevant software applications.
