Job description: Global Science & Technology (GST) is seeking a Detector Scientist. This position will support the design, integration, and testing of instrumentation designed for infrared astrophysics, with specific applications for both suborbital and future space-based instruments.Primary Duties:
- Design and assembly of test setups and mechanical components for detector testing.
- Testing of superconducting detectors, semiconducting detectors, and other novel devices.
- Analyzing detector test data, including the development of analysis pipelines.
- Cryogenic testing and qualification of mechanical and electrical components.
- Operation and routine maintenance of test equipment, including temperature controllers, temperature monitors, integrating spheres, spectrum analyzers, function generators, monochromators, black body sources, vacuum pumps, cryocoolers, associated drive electronics, and other related lab equipment.
- Troubleshooting of setups designed for the optical and electrical characterization of detectors.
- Integration of instruments, including optical, mechanical, and electrical systems as necessary.
- Written and oral reporting as required.
- Adherence to all NASA/GSFC safety regulations
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
- Ph.D. in physics or other related field, with emphasis on experimentation.
- Expert in cryogenic system design, manufacturing, and assembly techniques.
- Expert in CAD programs (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) to facilitate the above experience.
- Expert in data analysis using a programming language such as Python, Matlab, or IDL.
- Expert in technologies associated with cryogenic test systems, including thermometry, harnessing, housekeeping electronics, high vacuum components, and helium leak detector support systems.
- Expert in environmental qualification (e.g., thermal vacuum) of hardware for flight operations
- Expert in field operations related to the deployment of infrared instrumentation
- Ability to work independently and learn/apply new experimental techniques for a given application.

The projected compensation range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000.00 (annualized USD).
