- Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
- Lead, mentor and coordinate a team of facility test engineers as they support the various test entries in the facility. Assist in the assigning of tasks. Participate in the review of the work being completed and provide feedback as needed.
- Lead test planning activities, coordinate and communicate with customers (both internal and external to NASA) to help develop test requirements and test matrices, design wind tunnel models, and coordinate pre-test meetings and documentation.
- Execute testing programs, assist in model and instrumentation installation and set up of test specific requirements. Coordinate day to day testing of the model, working with other facility personnel and test customers.
- Complete preliminary data reduction requirements and communicate findings and data with applicable customers.
- Lead post-test activities to include data quality checks, final data processing, preparation for and running of data quality reviews, and hand off of data to customers.
- Develop an understanding of the various test techniques and capabilities in the facilities and assist in troubleshooting, as well as, capability advancements as needed. Help to train other test engineers on the capabilities.

QualificationsIn addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. - Assisting in wind tunnel tests to include working with customers, planning and executing wind tunnel tests, data reduction or verification
- Working with teams to include activities such as providing technical input, assisting in the delegation of tasks, review of work being conducted by other members of the team, or mentoring less experienced members of the team
- Utilizing various data systems normally found in wind tunnel operations to include balances, discrete instrumentation or optical test techniques.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
- Conducting wind tunnel tests to include working with customers, planning and executing wind tunnel tests, data reduction or verification
- Working within a team which included delegation of tasks, oversight of work being conducted by other members of the team, or mentoring less experienced members of the team
- Utilizing various data systems normally found in wind tunnel operations to include balances, discrete instrumentation or optical test techniques. Experience should include both operations of the techniques and troubleshooting or development work.
