The overall College budget exceeds $400M, and total research expenditures by A&S investigators exceed $100M.The OpportunityWe seek an Academic HR Business Partner! In partnership with the Sr. Academic HR Business Partner, you will:
- Provide support to, and consult with Sr. Associate Deans, Associate Dean of Finance and Administration and Assistant Dean of Human Resources in various academic HR matters for the College of Arts and Sciences (28 academic departments and 15 academic programs).
- Provide guidance and direction on a range of academic HR matters, including, but not limited to, academic policies and policy interpretation, procedures and guidelines.
- Support all academic searches, hiring, search waivers, compensation and appointment processes and leaves for academic and teaching positions.
- Engage with an understanding of the College’s policies related to the management of tenured, non-tenure track, and other academic appointments.
- Partner with the Assistant Dean of Human Resources and Sr. Academic HR Business Partner in managing sensitive matters requiring analysis of issues, creative problem-solving and confidentiality. Requests policy waivers on behalf of the College, as appropriate.
- Assist in coordinating the annual Salary Improvement Process (SIP), as well as the academic workforce planning annual budget process, ensuring all academic positions are budgeted accurately.
- Ensure ongoing collaboration with the Sr. Academic HR Business Partner in the execution of responsibilities.
- Provide backup support for academic matters, in the absence of the Sr. Academic HR Business Partner.

Hours and LocationCore business hours for the CAS HR Office located on Cornell’s Ithaca campus in Goldwin-Smith Hall, are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. This position offers flexibility for start and end times between the core business hours, which will be determined by your supervisor. To ensure mutual success, after an initial onboarding period and with supervisory approval, this position can be performed through a hybrid model of 3 days on campus and 2 days remote. Work times are flexed for coverage of occasional, prescheduled events outside of core business hours. While this is the current set up of our work hours, schedules can be subject to change, based on business needs.What We Need

- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience or equivalent combination.
- In-depth working knowledge of higher education academic HR practices, policies, and procedures.
- Familiarity with the academic environment required.
- Previous work experience managing faculty affairs.
- Solid understanding of university and college workforce budgeting policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability to establish individual priorities and demonstrates initiative and self-direction to follow through on all areas of responsibility, with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience using sound judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience effectively handling employee issues, including providing advice and recommendations that are consistent with university and College HR policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively and share knowledge and information with others.
- Attention to detail and management of multiple conflicting deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters with tact and discretion.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

- Previous work experience managing faculty affairs.

- Demonstrated ability to navigate a highly complex organizational structure.
