Job description: Job ResponsibilitiesJob Purpose:Working under the supervision of the Artist Development Director, the Artist Development Coordinator works with constituents, grantees, artists, and organizations throughout the State. They serve as a member of the programs team and provide consulting and assistance to counties or regions of the state.Duties and Responsibilities:
Artist Development Coordinator
- Works with Artist Development Director to administer short and long-term planning goals for SCAC assigned grant categories and programs in accordance with agency mission, values, and strategic plan.
- Creates and implements an annual work plan for assigned grant and programmatic areas.
- Fosters relationships with arts administrators, artists, and arts organizations through meetings, public forums, panels, and other creative activities.
- Provides feedback to artists on grant applications and panel reviews when requested.
- Conducts research on potential grant recipients, grant panelists, and program partners.
- Fosters relationships for collaboration opportunities with Artist development offerings.
- Generates MOUs, prepares agreements and contracts for programs/projects in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Works closely with consultants contracted to provide training and services related to individual artist support.
- Represents SC Arts Commission at local, statewide, and national cultural activities, meetings, and conferences.
Other Duties as Assigned
- Participates in agency strategic planning.
- Collaborates closely with other agency programs and departments.
- Fulfills other duties consistent with supporting agency projects, programs, and events.
Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the agency’s mission, programs, and objectives.
- Knowledge reflecting a broad background in the arts with experience working with individual artists in all disciplines (literary, performing, visual, etc.), artists who are at various stages in their career (emerging, mid-level, advanced), in arts programming.
- Knowledge of current trends in the arts in general.
- Knowledge of needs, makeup, dynamics of artists, and artist communities.
- Knowledge of recent research and policies related to artist support.
- Experience working in diverse capacities with people who represent a broad spectrum of socio-cultural and socio-economic positions.
- Experience in facilitating group processes (i.e., panels, community meetings, learning experiences), both in person and virtual.
- Experience working in rural communities.
- Experience in program implementation and evaluation.
- Understanding of grant allocation programs.
- Experience in explaining complex processes to various stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects.
- Excellent communication skills: and self-management of time and work.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suites, cloud-based database and project management technologies, internet research, and video conferencing platforms.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships and communicate in a professional manner with agency executives, staff, board, funders, governmental officials, and the public.
- Ability to take initiative and consistently meet deadlines.
- Ability to exercise excellent judgment and discretion.
- Ability to speak Spanish is a bonus.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree* and three (3) years of experience in the assigned programmatic arts area.
- Punctuality, regular attendance, and adherence to daily work schedule are essential.
- Overnight travel, evening, and weekend work is sometimes required, as well as light lifting and long periods of sitting.
- The employee may be required to operate a state vehicle; must possess and maintain a valid S.C. driver’s license.
- Employment is contingent upon the results of a favorable reference check and a criminal background check, which includes information from the S.C. Law Enforcement Department (SLED).
- Degree must be from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Preferred QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree* in an arts discipline, arts administration, arts education, or public administration and three (3) years of professional experience in individual artist support, arts management, program development, or related areas. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the degree.
