Job description: Performs data abstraction from a variety of documentation with input into Collector data base to satisfy criteria as a Pediatric Level I Trauma Center. Secures documentation and billing information and reconciles for charge entry for trauma team activation.Additionally is a Trauma and Burn registrar position. Data abstraction, report building. Knowledge on ICD-10 coding is helpful. AAAMS and ATS registry courses completion preferred but not required.This position is Remote EligibleQualifications Minimum Education

Database Entry
- Identify patients and abstract data from medical records in Cerner and EPRS required by the Collector Trauma Registry Data Base on all trauma & burn patients requiring trauma activations to include all patients admitted with injury.
- Keep data base current within 2 months of patient discharge.
- Maintain knowledge of current data dictionary definition and changes in order to accurately input data.
- Coordinate downloads from HBOC for integration of demographic information into the Collector Trauma Registry Data Base.
- Observe for injured patients being admitted to non-surgical services.
Database Sharing
- Responsible for the completion and uploading of data required quarterly on children injured in Maryland to be sent to the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Service Systems COMAR 30.08 criteria.
Research Projects
- Participate in the data collection pertaining to all research projects conducted through the Trauma Service and the Department of Surgery.
Billing
- Obtain trauma activation charge ticket and hard copy medical record from EMTC.
- Enter charges for trauma activation fee and enter charges in a timely manner.
- Track missing records and reports to manager.
- Continues to look for documentation for late charge entry.
- Verify medical record information within Cerner or EPRS to determine accurate level of trauma team activation code for appropriate charge entry.
New Personnel Training
- Orient and train new personnel that require access to the Collector Data Base to include research assistants, summer interns, and others whose job responsibilities include interfacing with the Collector Data Base.
