Job description: Job DescriptionVertex is seeking a talented individual to join our US Pain Business Unit (BU) to support our journey to deliver new pain management treatment options to patients. The Director of the Virtual Field Team – Pain BU will lead the strategic direction, management, and optimization of the Vertex Pain BU’s virtual field team. This role will drive and evolve the virtual customer engagement strategy for the Vertex Pain BU, construct operational platform, and manage external partnerships. Reporting to the Head of Strategic Customer Engagement, this individual will play a critical role in ensuring the virtual team integrates seamlessly with the broader strategic customer engagement team, in driving results through the Virtual Field Team meeting demand goals while building trust with internal and external stakeholders.Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead the integration, management, and performance of the virtual field team, ensuring high performance, compliance, and engagement. Collaborate with external partners and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure a seamless integration the virtual field team into territory planning and customer engagement. Role model integrity and edits.
- External Partnership Management: Oversee the partnership with the selected external partner(s) to ensure the success of the virtual field team. This will include, but not be limited to, ensuring all contract terms are addressed, KPIs achieved, and performance expectations are met/exceeded. Work closely with the external partner’s leadership team to ensure alignment on goals and operational standards will be a key deliverable.
- Strategy Development: Create and implement the long-term strategy for the virtual field team for the Vertex Pain BU, assessing opportunities to evolve the virtual field model. Identify new technologies, platforms, and practices to enhance customer engagement and team effectiveness.
- Operational Management: Develop and monitor business rules, incentive structures, metrics (KPIs), and reporting processes that ensure the virtual field team operates efficiently and in compliance with company standards. Collaborate with legal, OBIE, and field leadership teams to establish a platform for collaborative, compliant, and effective customer engagement.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, IT, commercial operations, training, and other internal teams to ensure the virtual field team has access to the tools, resources, and data necessary for success. Foster strong communication channels between the virtual field team and the broader field team to align on customer goals.
- Performance Management: Establish clear performance metrics and regular reporting to evaluate the success of virtual representatives. Use data insights to make informed decisions about future investments and improvements in virtual field team scope and performance.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech commercial field/marketing, with significant experience leading remote or virtual field teams.
- Proven experience with third-party service providers, including managing partnerships and KPIs.
- Demonstrated success in launching new products and field teams, preferably in specialty markets or pain management.
- Deep understanding of commercial strategy, remote customer engagement platforms, and virtual team management.
- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical regulatory environment and compliance standards.
