Job title: Electrical Design Engineer
Company: Utilidata
Job description: Utilidata is a fast-growing energy technology company using distributed artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate the clean energy transition and better serve utility customers. As the electric grid becomes more complex with the rapid increase of electric vehicles, distributed solar, batteries, heat pumps and extreme weather, utilities need real-time visibility of grid conditions. Utilidata’s distributed AI platform, powered by our custom NVIDIA chip, is transforming the way utility companies operate with real-time visibility at the grid edge to better utilize customer energy resources, reduce power outages, and enable quicker storm recovery. We are expanding our diverse team of experts and looking for electrical design engineers who are mission-driven, collaborative, and adaptive. This role requires operating at the nexus of embedded systems engineering, power systems engineering, data science, algorithms, rapid prototyping, and hardware certification. This is a hybrid position based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Candidates will be expected to report in-person for a portion of the work week and collaborate cross-functionally with remote teams based across the country.Responsibilities
- Test, validate, and debug mixed-signal and sensing electronics
- Coordinate prototyping of PCBs and enclosures including in-house assembly and modification as needed
- Coordinate work with contract manufacturers to build state-of-the-art grid edge metering hardware correctly and on schedule
- Write internal assembly, test, and quality procedures and external support documentation
- Collaborate with algorithms, software, and product teams to evaluate, process, and derive insights from data generated on the grid edge using statistics, algorithms, machine learning, subject-matter expertise, and critical thinking
- Conduct background research on utility/customer requirements, UL/FCC standards, sensor technologies, component datasheets, and competitive products
- Support the design of state-of-the-art grid-edge metering hardware incorporating complex electronic circuits with analog, digital, microcontroller, and wireless/IoT components
- Support the design, simulation, layout, validation, and documentation of mixed-signal electronic circuits for grid edge sensing and computing
