Engineering Manager, Workspaces – US (Remote) | Weights & Biases

Job title: Engineering Manager, Workspaces – US (Remote)

Company: Weights & Biases

Job description: At Weights & Biases, our mission is to build the best tools for AI developers. We founded our company on the insight that while there were excellent tools for developers to build better code, there were no similarly great tools to help ML practitioners build better models. Starting with our first experiment tracking product, we have since expanded our solution into a comprehensive AI developer platform for organizations focused on building their own deep learning models and generative AI applications.Weights & Biases is a Series C company with $250M in funding and over 200 employees. We proudly serve over 1,000 customers and more than 30 foundation model builders including customers such as OpenAI, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Toyota. We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the development of Weights & Biases Workspace and Reports product. In this role, you will be responsible for the core experiment tracking experience and will continue to develop new collaboration features to accelerate AI Engineers. In addition, you will be expected to build and scale a team of talented Engineers, guiding architectural decisions, and working closely with the Product team to make sure we are maximizing the impact we can deliver to our customers. What you’ll achieve:

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and other stakeholders to define product requirements, scope, and milestones.
  • Drive the development of key product features, such as baseline run comparison, customizable sharing/reporting experience, and full fidelity charts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team, ensuring high-quality code, architectural integrity, and scalability.
  • Work closely with customers to gather feedback, understand pain points, and iterate on the product roadmap.
  • Mentor and provide feedback to Engineers on the team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in Software Engineering, with a strong background in building and delivering complex software products.
  • Previous experience (1+ years) in a leadership or managerial role, with a track record of effectively managing and growing engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness and ability to communicate directly with users, understand their workflows, and summarize their feedback for your team.

Nice to haves:

  • Previous experience building ML based products or building tools for ML teams.
  • Experience leading a team in a start up environment and dealing with urgent and ambiguous requests.
  • Experience using or working with experiment tracking tools such as Tensorboard.
  • Deep technical expertises on data visualization and performant web applications.

Why join us?

  • Researchers at OpenAI, Toyota Research Institute, Pandora, SFDC, Lyft and other top-tier institutions use and love our current product.
  • You’ll never stop learning. Our engineering team consists of top talent from Google, Waymo, Twitter, Stripe and Segment.
  • We have extensive experience working with companies to turn machine learning research projects into scalable, real-world deployments. We’ve watched hundreds of teams struggle to deploy machine learning models successfully, and the same problems show up repeatedly. Machine learning has created a fundamentally new kind of programming, requiring a fundamentally new set of developer tools. We created Weights & Biases to provide that missing toolkit.
  • We have an experienced founding team including the founders of CrowdFlower (now Figure Eight), a successful startup in the machine learning space.
  • Don’t just just take it from us, here’s a quote from Wojciech Zaremba, Cofounder and Robotics Lead, OpenAI: “W&B allows us to scale up insights from a single researcher to the entire team, and from a single machine to hundreds of them.”
  • Our stack: React, Typescript, GraphQL, Python, Golang, Kubernetes, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services.
