- Knowledge of a broad spectrum of clinical chemistry, toxicology, drug monitoring and other procedures utilizing a wide range of technologies including immunoassay.
- Utilizes computer systems associated with specimen processing instruments.
- Maintains proficiency in phlebotomy and follows appropriate guidelines for blood draw.
- Uses two patient identifiers and active communication when identifying patients for blood draw and all other specimen collection processes.
- Processes specimens using the equipment, instruments and techniques required to prepare them for specific analysis, controls physical conditions and responds to time factors to ensure that the physiologic integrity of the specimen is maintained.
- Performs procedures associated with the enumeration and identification of human blood constituents and the study of the coagulation system.
- Performs procedures associated with the enumeration and identification of urine elements.

Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration.The SPF for this position is: Experience performing phlebotomy/blood draws on human patients.AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at lease the GS 05 grade level in the Federal Service performing technical medical laboratory support work such as: performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings: technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. This experience must be fully documented in your resume to receive credit. -OR-SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):Successful completion of at least one-half year of graduate level education (9 semester hours above a bachelor’s degree) or an internship in course matter that must include courses directly related to the work of the position such as chemistry, biological sciences, hematology, microbiology, serology, etc. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Transcripts required. -OR-COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses directly related to the work of the Medical Technician position such as chemistry, biological sciences, hematology, microbiology, serology, etc. and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
