FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE WITH THE OPTION TO WORK REMOTE ONE TO TWO DAYS A WEEK!!WORK LOCATION: Upstate Health Region (Headquarters Negotiable)The Regional Medical Director (RMD) serves as the primary clinician overseeing all aspects of clinically related care provided in the Region. Duties include:Clinical Consultant – Is the primary medical consultant in the Region which includes providing medical consultation by phone for health department clinics; assisting with policy, procedure & standing order development; serving as collaborating physician for up to six (6) APRNs; and serving as the back-up physician for the other Regions. Serves as the VFC provider of record for Region, serving as the back-up physician for the other Regions to ensure regional medical consultant coverage during working hours, nights, weekends, and holidays. Directly supervising the Region Laboratory Manager.Public Health Practitioner – Keeps current regarding trends & best practices in public health. Actively engages local communities as a public health leader and advocates and maintains mutually beneficial relationships in the region (i.e., providers, hospitals, residency programs, schools, & universities); maintains a keen awareness of individual community needs and serves on community taskforces as a subject matter expert, helping to guide others in understanding public health services and to move the public health agenda forward by serving on community taskforces, and conducting data walks; and providing clinical/ epidemiological consultation to community providers and other healthcare professionals.Disease Surveillance & Emergency Response – Is the primary medical consultant in the Region during public health emergencies. Maintains an operational awareness of all public health preparedness & disease response activities & plans; participates in emergency preparedness & disease response efforts (including planning, training, investigating, and monitoring outbreaks/cases of reportable diseases; assists with the analysis and interpretation of disease surveillance data; participates in sheltering operations; and ensuring that hospitals & private care providers are aware of agency functions in the event of an acute disease case, outbreak investigation/other public health emergency. Assists with providing timely and accurate information related to public health issues in response to media requests.MD or DO, graduation from an accredited medical school.Current unrestricted license from the SC Board of Medical Examiners to practice medicine in South Carolina or the ability to obtain an unrestricted license from the SC Board of Medical Examiners to practice medicine in South Carolina within 90 days of hire or as soon as possible thereafter, but not to exceed 180 days.
Candidate should have a thorough knowledge/understanding of the principles and practices of medicine related to public health services; a strong background in epidemiology; an understanding of the structure and functions of healthcare organizations and the current social and economic problems pertaining to public health at a national, state, and community level.Please note that the agency may require an official, certified copy of your transcript or diploma prior to hiring. Institutions of higher learning must be recognized by the .A master’s degree in public health or related healthcare field and/or relevant training as a CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer or other similar Epidemiologic training program and two (2) years of experience in a clinical setting or completion of a residency program and/or a current & ongoing Board Certification by an approved American medical specialty board in either preventive medicine, family practice, or internal medicine.

Expected salary: $175000 – 185000 per year
