Job description: OverviewIDC is seeking a Research Manager to join our established Enterprise Intelligence Services research program to support research, client engagement, and business development efforts. The successful candidate will become a subject-matter expert on the life cycle of services (i.e., project-based, managed, and support services) related to the deployment of technologies such as data management, analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and automation as part of enterprise intelligence initiatives. Research will include understanding market drivers and trends, buying behaviors, vendor strategies and capabilities, and business outcomes delivered through external enterprise intelligence services. The candidate will employ IDC research methodologies to size markets and forecast market growth.This Research Manager role is a highly visible position that requires the candidate to generate and deliver cutting-edge qualitative and quantitative research across a vast and rapidly evolving market. IDC’s exceptionally diverse base of clients includes the most significant worldwide business and IT services firms, as well as emerging vendors in the enterprise intelligence services space. This individual will work closely with the senior research director to maintain the program’s strong reputation and revenue contribution across subscription and custom research, with opportunity to pursue new research topics in line with client demand and to build his, her, or their own industry analyst profile. - Develop, publish and present innovative, insightful, and actionable research. This includes writing well-researched and concise reports, generating forecasts, and presenting findings to suppliers and buyers of enterprise intelligence services.
- Provide first-class customer support and advisory services. Our clients rely on us for timely and actionable insights and ongoing customer interaction is a top responsibility.
- Contribute to ongoing research to analyze trends in enterprise intelligence services, including the competitive strategies and performance of service providers, as well as enterprise buyer demand for those offers.
- Work closely with other IDC analysts to collect, analyze, and report observed trends and market segmentations in support of existing forecast models for enterprise intelligence and AI services segments, and contribute to other collaborative research initiatives.
- Interact with executives from leading and emerging enterprise intelligence services companies to understand and provide feedback on strategies, offerings, and market positioning.
- Support marketing, business development, sales prospecting and support efforts with technology vendors and end user clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s or other professional degree is a plus.
- 5+ years’ experience in market research, advisory, marketing or consulting specific to the professional services domain. Experience in data management, analytics, AI, or automation technology consulting or deployment services is a plus, but not required.
- Solid understanding of trends in the enterprise intelligence services sector, as well as the ability to analyze and provide actionable guidance to service providers and buyers.
- Research and/or marketing professional with good knowledge of market analysis frameworks such as market sizing models, market segmentation and competitive intelligence.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze survey data and provide a clear, concise summation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to analyze, present and articulate complex data sets.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the capacity to work both independently and within a team.
- Ability to travel (15-20%) for client meetings, industry events and customer projects.
- This role has flexibility to work from an approved remote US location or from our Needham, MA corporate office.
