Full-time day shift. The work is remote.POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
The Clinical Documentation Specialist, focusing on oncology patients, reviews clinical documentation, makes judgements regarding the completeness and quality of that documentation, and facilitates modifications to clinical documentation through communication with physicians, practitioners, and medical records coding staff.DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Clinical Documentation Integrity Program performs concurrent review of inpatient medical records to ensure provider documentation accurately reflects patient severity of illness, acuity of care needs, risk of mortality and the quality of treatment provided. Team members also serve on various multidisciplinary committees promoting quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs initial and follow up audit and investigation of the medical record, for examining, analyzing and reporting on institutional practices and procedures.
- Confers with physician, coding specialists and others to clarify information, obtain needed documentation, present opportunities and educate for appropriate DRG based on the severity of illness, ensure appropriate DRG and completeness of supporting documentation.
- Educates providers regarding compliance in medical/clinical documentation, coding and reimbursement issues, and performance improvement methodologies.
- Leads or participates in oncology QA studies as assigned and assists with special projects as needed.
REQUIREMENTS

- Minimum of 6 years of recent acute inpatient hospital nursing experience with in-depth knowledge of medical and surgical care of oncology patients.
- A minimum of 2 years of CDI experience.
- Active license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington required by start date.
