Join us today and experience Life at Visa.Job DescriptionVisa is seeking a senior marketing and advertising attorney to join the Global Product, IP and Services legal team, as part of the Marketing Legal team supporting the Visa Marketing organization. The position is for a Senior Managing Counsel, who will report to the Vice President who leads the Marketing Legal team. The position is based in San Francisco/Foster City, California, Denver, Colorado or New York City.Applicants must have significant experience advising on current legal and regulatory framework and risks relevant to the Marketing team, including marketing and promotions law, privacy, contracts, licensing, social media, behavioral advertising, targeting, adware/adtech, email and SMS/text marketing, artificial intelligence, and other emerging marketing technology issues. An ideal candidate will also have in-house experience partnering with marketing teams, external agencies, and reviewing marketing executions on the fly to meet short deadlines. This position requires a business savvy team player who is collaborative with marketing and legal colleagues and can work with minimal supervision in a fast-moving environment.Essential FunctionsProvide advice on marketing, advertising, offers and promotions, with an emphasis on drafting and negotiating marketing-related agreements, reviewing marketing communications and creative (e.g., press releases, web & social copy, consumer and B2B advertising, marketing/client presentations, marketing surveys/studies, white papers) and advise on promotional offers, contests and sweepstakes.Build a streamline system of intake for marketing legal review of creative assets and project manage other processes and ways of workingDraft, review and negotiate a wide variety of creative, media, talent and other marketing related contracts.This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.​QualificationsBasic Qualifications
– 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhDPreferred Qualifications
– 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
– Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
– 12+ years of relevant legal experience
– Prior experience in marketing legal role required
– Current member in good standing of a state bar in the United States with the ability to become barred or a registered in-house counsel in the state where this role is located
– 9+ years in providing advice on marketing legal issues (either in-house or as external counsel)
– Experience building legal support processes with strong organizational skills, prior project management experience is a plus
– Prior in-house experience preferred
– Must possess exceptional analytical ability and advocacy skills, drive execution in a team environment, and the ability to integrate legal advice and business knowledge, while providing balanced advice regarding risks and benefits
– Effective verbal and written communication skills in all interactions with marketing clients, senior management, legal colleagues, external counsel, corporate departments and all levels of employees
– Developed business acumen, with ability to understand the company’s business interests and anticipate the nature and magnitude of issues that could arise in various settings
– Practical and proactive problem-solver with a strong business acumen, must be confident, mature and calm under fire-Experience with music negotiations and A-List Celebrity talent negotiationsAdditional InformationWork Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.
