Job title: Tumor Registrar (Full Time- REMOTE)

Job description: The incumbent in this position abstracts, codes, and enters into a computerized data base diagnostic, demographic, treatment and follow up information on all patients with diagnoses of malignancies admitted to Medstar Georgetown University Hospital and/or the Lombardi Cancer Center. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Medstar Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED with knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required or
- Associate’s degree required or
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience
- 1-2 years A minimum of two (2) years directly related work experience. required
Licenses and Certifications
- TR – Tumor Registrar or eligible to sit for certification. required or
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of personal computers, in-house computer systems, word processors, typewriters, telephones, copy machines and microfiche readers.
- Abstracts data from medical records efficiently to meet productivity standards.
- Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes, and established guidelines to accurately abstract cancer cases.
- Performs procedures for identifying all malignant and benign cases set by the CoC and DC Central Registry from departments of the hospital, Lombardi Cancer Center and the outpatient areas to maintain suspense file.
- Maintains knowledge of cancer treatment, data acquisition, and related skills through continuing education and research.
- Answers requests for data from Tumor Registry database.
- Organizes and manages case finding, staging and follow up materials appropriately.
