Job description: DescriptionPerform skilled technical work in the operation of Seminole County’s Water Treatment Facilities, monitoring of all County-owned Water Treatment Facilities, Lift Stations, Wastewater Treatment Facilities and Re-use Treatment Facilities.Maintain remote facilities operations and security oversight via SCADA, video camera systems, and intrusion alarm systems. Coordinate operational failures with the Maintenance Department, or other agencies as may be required. Coordinate security response with Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department or other agencies, as may be required.Coordinate with other Departments, vendors and contractors for access to secure work sites.**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.**Additional compensation based on licensure.Essential FunctionsPerforms daily operational procedures, laboratory and field analyses, and routine calibrations and maintenance in order to maintain optimal treatment process.Responsible for the water distribution within the treatment process, of all process chemicals. Responsible for adherence to proper safety standards and procedures. Responsible for maintaining all safety equipment and related records.Operates, maintains, and repairs all chemical systems, including hypochlorite feed, dosing pumps, and all associated piping and fittings.Maintains, prepares, and submits all required Daily Plant Logs, Equipment Data Logs, Process Control records, and Monthly Operating Reports. Collects and submits data as required to assist with Department operations, such as budget preparation and purchasing planning.Supervises and trains other staff members as required. Coordinates with other Departments, vendors, and contractors to accomplish assigned tasks. Provides oversight and progress status reports on such assigned tasks and projects.Maintain State-mandated professional qualifications by seeking out and completing approved C.E.U. courses.Performs after-hours and on-call duties. Responds to emergencies and other call-outs as directed. Responds to customer complaints and concerns. Maintain all Water Quality Complaint documentation.Maintain the water plant distribution system. Collect mandated system chemical and bacteriological samples. Develop, maintain and modify as necessary, system flushing programs.Operates Microsoft Office programs for preparation of routine paperwork and records. Be familiar with computer operations and data entry procedures as pertains to operational needs.Maintain remote facilities operations and security oversight via SCADA, video camera systems, and intrusion alarm systems. Coordinate operational failures with the Maintenance Department, or other agencies as may be required. Coordinate security response with Sheriff’s Office, Fire Department, or other agencies as may be required.Performs other duties as may be assigned.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma/GED and one (1) year experience required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.Possession of a Class “C” Water Plant Operator certification, or higher, issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and SCADA software; GIS experience preferred.Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.Considerable hands-on knowledge of pump operations and maintenance, well field operations, chlorination equipment operation and maintenance, and operation and calibration of laboratory and field analytical equipment.Must have normal color vision.Must be available to work any hours or days as may be assigned.Must meet all qualifications required to use a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus.Additional RequirementsMust be able to communicate clearly orally and in writing.Considerable knowledge of standard water treatment practices and the rules and regulations of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, St. John’s River Water Management District, and the Department of Health.This position does not normally operate under direct supervision, and requires excellent decision-making abilities, personal initiative and responsibility.Experience operating Water Treatment Plants using Ozone is desired.Experience dealing with Customer Service Issues is desired.County-paid benefits for employeesCompetitive Wages: Our compensation system includes competitive hiring salaries.Paid Time Off: New full-time employees accrue 20 days per year of Paid Time Off (16 days for 24-hour shift personnel). Seminole County offers a Point of Service (POS) plan. Dependent coverage is also available, the cost is split between the employee and employer. This benefit is not extended to part-time employees.Life Insurance: Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance for employees, equal to one times annual salary. Not extended to part-time employees.Long-Term Disability: Provides 60% of salary after 6 months of disability. Not extended to part-time employees.Optional benefits (employee-paid) for full-time employees:Deferred Compensation Plan (457): Employees may choose to have pre-tax payroll deductions made for deposit into this savings plan up to an IRS-established maximum.Dental Insurance: A choice of 3 plans is available for employees and dependents at employee expense.Additional Life Insurance: At employee expense, additional life insurance up to five times annual salary; dependent coverage also available.Short-Term Disability Insurance: 60% of salary for the first six months of disability at employee expense.Cancer and Specified Disease: Pays a benefit directly to the employee if being treated for this disease.Flexible Spending Account: A pre-tax account for childcare and un-reimbursed medical expenses.Pre-Tax Payroll Deductions: Under Section 125 of the IRS Code, certain payroll deductions for insurance coverage may be taken out prior to income being taxed.01Do you possess a Class “C” or higher Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operators license from the State of Florida?
